Welcome to Learn Word by Word. As we look at what is going on in our world, we have realized that humanity does not have any answers to the destructive ideas that are pervading our world. Only God can heal us and bring lasting change. So we strive to be a voice that amplifies the word that God has given us.
In the book of Revelation, it talks about Christians in our day.
The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation. “I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
Revelation 3: 15-22
The language in this passage makes clear that the church is filled with people who call themselves “Christian” but who have not put their trust and faith in Jesus alone, and therefore are not saved. Words like blindness and nakedness when used as euphemisms in scripture are always associated with unbelief. However, can there be any more encouraging words than these: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”
The people who are worried about their salvation are not the ones this passage is talking about. They are either already saved, or the Holy Spirit is already working on getting them saved. Instead, it is the people who say “…I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing…”. Basically, those who think they have it made, who always think the pastor is talking about someone else. We hope to reach some of these people as well as anyone else who doesn’t yet know the Lord.
We also hope to inspire those who do know the Lord to “… seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness …” (Matt. 6: 33). Basically, to become more involved in their church and more involved in finding and saving the lost.
In our podcast episodes, we will teach the Bible from beginning to end, and verse by verse. We believe every word of the Bible is inspired by God. So even though there are 66 books in the Bible, there is just one author; God. Not only are the words inspired, but so is the composition, and even the order in which the books of the Bible were placed. Therefore, we study the Bible in the same way God wrote it.
We have a method we will follow for interpreting God’s Word:
- When a natural reading of God’s Word makes perfect sense, seek no other sense.
- Symbols and difficult-to-understand passages from God’s Word will be interpreted by God’s Word (So we will learn Word by Word).
- Usually, you can find the meaning in the immediate context.
- For scripture, the immediate context is defined as the same book of scripture it can be either ahead of or behind where your reading, but that is all considered in context.
- Sometimes you need to go backward in scripture to previous books to find the explanation.
- Rarely, you will need to go forwards in scripture to later books to find the full meaning.
- Usually, you can find the meaning in the immediate context.
- We will use any of God’s Word as supporting texts to solidify the concepts we are studying.
